China Air Transport Association (CATA) is a national trade organization and a nonprofit legal entity. It was approved and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China on September 9, 2005. The CATA membership comprises mainly the airlines, other enterprises, public institutions and associations also join CATA by free will. Up to April 2020, CATA has 2399 members altogether, of which 111 belong to CATA members and 2288 to its affiliates. Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is the competent authorities for CATA. At present, the Board of CATA is made up of 29 members, including Chairman, Vice Chairmen and Secretary General, with Executive Vice Chairman as its legal person. The Association consists of 6 internal departments and 14 affiliates. The budgets of CATA come from membership fees and service incomes such as training. Focusing on the industry development and the needs of its members, CATA is committed to ensuring aviation safety and high-quality development, working on industry standards, and enhancing the vocational training system. CATA provides information and consultation services, with annual publications of the Bluebook on the Development of China’s Air Transport Industry and the Collection of Civil Aviation Studies etc. CATA monitors carbon emission reduction of the Chinese airlines under the guidance of CAAC to spur green development of the aviation industry. In addition, CATA attaches great importance to foreign exchanges and cooperation, and actively participates in poverty alleviation through civil aviation.
