Suzhou is one of the most key tourism cities in China. Suzhou is located in the hub of the Yangtze River Delta, bordering Shanghai to the east, China’s largest industrial, financial and trading center, sitting on the west shore of Taihu Lake, one of largest fresh water lakes of China and neighboring Zhejiang province to the south and flanking by the Yangtze River to the north, the third longest rivers in the world. There are 487 spots of historical and cultural value in Suzhou, which are protected at or above municipal levels, including 15 sites under national protection and 101 sites protected at the provincial level. There are 60-odd classic gardens which have survived the ravages of time in Suzhou, 9 of which have been enlisted in the World Heritage by UNESCO, including the Humble Administrator’s Garden, the Lingering Garden, the Master-of-Nets Garden, etc. Kunqu Opera and Guqin have been enlisted in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
