The Mediaeval City of Carcassonne enjoys an international reputation. World Heritage listed since 1997, it welcomes 2.5 million visitors every year, and is one of the most famous historical sites in France. For 2,500 years, the City is at the core of the History of France. Its nice conservation is achieved through continuous efforts for 180 years.

Between the Pyrenees mountains, the Montagne Noire and the Mediterranean Sea, Carcassonne opens on beautiful natural landscapes, where many leisure activities are available, as well as caves visits, bathing lakes… The « terroir » is generous, with much meat, fish, and fruit ripened on the tree. Carcassonne is in the heart of the largest vineyard in the world. Under the Registered Designation of Origins « Cité de Carcassonne » are provided wines of great character. Famous Registered Designation of Origins surround the city. After Prosper Montagné, for 150 years, tradition and creativity are continued by many local chefs.

The City of Carcassonne organizes entertainments on several highlights during the year long. For 120 years, its fireworks attract 700,000 people on the national day, July 14th.

Carcassonne is classified as a Tourist Station by the French State since 1939.
