Yan’an is briefly named as Yan, Shaanxi Province-level cities under its jurisdiction and the subcenter city of Shaanxi Province. It is located in the north of Shaanxi Province, in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, in the south-central region of the Loess Plateau, 371 kilometers north of Xi’an. The city has a total area of 37,000 square kilometers. In 2023, the permanent residential population of Yan’an was 2.2614 million. Yan’an is the national patriotism, revolutionary tradition and Yan’an spirit education bases, known as China’s famous historical and cultural city, holy land of Chinese revolution and Chinese nation. Yan’an is one of the excellent tourism cities in China. Within the territory, there are 8,545 historical sites, 445 revolutionary sites, of which 168 are in urban areas and 277 in counties, 40 national key cultural relics protection organizations, 211 provincial key cultural relics protection units, 68,995 pieces of cultural relics in collection.
