Lijiang city, where Yunnan, Sichuan and Xizang converge here, covers a total land area of 20,600 square kilometers with the jurisdiction of 5 counties (districts),and a total population of 1.255 million. There are exclusive abundant resources. Lijiang Naxi Dongba Culture lasted for over 1000 years. Muosuo People, the last matrilineal family of mankind, has lived here for generations. Over 13,000 plant species found in Lijiang, it enjoys the reputation of “Highland Flora Kingdom”and the rare”Natural Species Gene Pool” all over the world. There are fabulous natural landscapes.
Tourist Xu Xiake, botanist Joseph Locke and writer Peter Goullart payed visits here with nostalgic feelings. The Yulong Snow Mountain of Lijiang, the closest glacier museum to the Equator,welcomes tourist from home and aboard. The Lugu Lake, a pearl of plateau, resembles a fairyland. There are profound cultural endowments.
A group of 26 ethnic groups live in Lijiang including 12 indigenous ones, making it a place of multi-religions where different cultures meet here. The Old Town of Lijiang enjoys a history of over 800 years, and the Naxi Dongba hieroglyph of over 1000 years. There are favorable and unique geographical conditions.
Lijiang is a major stop in“the Southern Silk Road”and “the Ancient Tea Horse Road”. It has two feeder airports connecting with nearly 100 cities and links national railroad network, turning it a hub from terminal. Lijiang is a vital joint of Great Western Yunnan Traveling Route and an important station of Great Shangri-La Rim of Yunnan, Sichuan and Xizang.
