On the evening of September 22, 2021 Shandong Conference on Tourism Development was inaugurated at the Binhai Square in Yantai. Li Ganjie, Deputy Party Secretary of Shandong Provincial CPC Central Committee and Governor of Shandong Province, announced the opening of the conference presided over by Yang Dongqi, Deputy Secretary of Shandong Provincial CPC Central Committee. Du Jiang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, and Liu Shijun, Secretary-General of World Tourism Alliance (WTA), attended the conference.
In his speech, Li Ganjie said, “Shandong will thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and requirements for the work in the province, focusing on the “seven leading positions” and “nine breakthroughs to strengthen the province”, giving full play to the great advantages of Shandong’s culture and tourism resources and actively integrating with major national strategies and cultural projects. Shandong will make great efforts to develop and cultivate high-quality tourist routes and scenic spots. In addition, it will strengthen the development of cultural and creative products and brand promotion, further open cultural tourism to the outside world, strive to optimize services, benefit enterprises and people, and drive the high-quality development of culture and tourism.”
At the Coastal Leisure Development Forum of 2021 Shandong Conference on Tourism Development, Du Jiang said, “Coastal and marine tourism is an important means to promote the development of recreational tourism and meet people’s needs for a better life in a better manner. Shandong is a major maritime province. It has built a number of world-renowned coastal and marine tourism cities and state-level tourist resorts. Moreover, it steps up efforts to develop new forms of business to constantly provide new driving forces, contributing valuable experience to the development of coastal and marine tourism in China.”
Liu Shijun said in his speech that Shandong Province held this tourism development conference, with guests from all walks of life gathering together, to pool wisdom and seek the path of tourism development, and make people work together to draw a better blueprint for the future. WTA would continue to give full play to its advantages as a platform for international and domestic exchanges and cooperation, and work together with Shandong Province and all sectors of society to strengthen exchanges, establish close cooperation and join hands to create a new situation of high-quality development of tourism in the new era.
Zhu Shanzhong, Executive Director of United Nations World Tourism Organization, Zoya Pavlovna, President of Khabarovsk Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Russia, Won Chang-muk, Mayor of Wonju-si, South Korea, Greg Williamson, Mayor of Mackay, Australia, and Oscar Nathan, President of Bay of Plenty Tourism Association, Tauranga, New Zealand, delivered speeches via videos.
At the opening ceremony, the establishment ceremony of China Tourism New Media Promotion Consortium was held. Shandong Provincial People’s Government and China Tourism Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement, and Yantai City made a cultural tourism promotion.
Sponsored by the Shandong Provincial CPC Central Committee and Shandong Provincial People’s Government, the conference was undertaken by Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Yantai Municipal CPC Central Committee and the People’s Government of Yantai. With the theme “Welcome to Coastal Wonderland, Enjoy the Hospitality of Shandong”, the conference called on in-depth study and implementation of the important guiding principle of General Secretary Xi Jinping on culture and tourism and gave full play to the multiple driving roles of culture and tourism, so as to promote high-quality economic and social development.
