WTA Participates in the 2023 ‘Discover China’ Xinjiang Tour for Diplomats in China

2023.08.22

August 14-19, 2023 – The 2023 “Discover China” Tours of Xinjiang for Diplomats in China was successfully held from August 14th to 19th. Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC and hosted by the Xinjiang Cultural and Tourism Department, the event saw representatives from the World Tourism Alliance (WTA), more than ten diplomats from nine countries, including Fiji, Mongolia, Seychelles, North Korea, Ecuador, the Philippines, Guyana, Mexico, and Tunisia, and leaders from the CTG Group. These participants deeply experienced the history, culture, and natural resources of Xinjiang destinations such as Urumqi, Turpan, Changji, and Kashgar, personally resonating with the well-known saying “Xinjiang is a Nice Place.”

“Discover China” is a branded initiative jointly launched by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC, China Tourism Group, and related local cultural and tourism authorities. Since its inception in 2021, the initiative has welcomed over a hundred diplomats from more than 70 countries, offering them visits to various parts of China. These visits offer diplomats an immersive experience of China’s allure, a firsthand account of contemporary China’s development, and a comprehensive understanding of the real, multifaceted China. In 2023, eight thematic routes were introduced, including destinations like Guangxi, Henan, Xinjiang, Hebei, Gansu, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Hainan. For the second consecutive year, the World Tourism Alliance was invited to support this significant event.

During their stay in Xinjiang, the WTA Secretariat was also invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 2023 (China) Eurasia Commodity and Trade Expo held at the Xinjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center on August 17.
