On July 30, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing jointly hosted a reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal. Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress XIAO Jie attended the event. The reception was also attended by over 200 guests including SUN Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee; LU Shaye, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs; ZHANG Jun, Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia; LU Xiangdong, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; ZHANG Baoqun, Deputy Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission; Nepalese Ambassador to China Krishna Prasad Oli; as well as representatives from various sectors of both countries and foreign diplomats stationed in China. Vice Chairman XIAO Jie and Ambassador Oli jointly lit a traditional Nepalese auspicious lamp and unveiled a commemorative envelope marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Mr. LU Xiangdong and Ambassador Oli delivered speeches respectively.
Vice President LU Xiangdong emphasized that China and Nepal share a deep and enduring friendship as neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, with a rich history of mutual exchanges. Over the past 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two nations have upheld strong leadership, mutual support, and cooperative efforts that have fostered mutually beneficial relations. This partnership serves as a model of mutual respect, equality, and win-win cooperation between countries of varying sizes. China remains committed to furthering its collaboration with Nepal in all areas, in line with the agreements reached by the leaders of both nations, and aims to contribute even more to the ongoing development of the China-Nepal strategic cooperative partnership.
Ambassador Oli noted the longstanding tradition of friendly exchanges between Nepal and China. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Nepal has consistently adhered to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the One China Policy. High-level exchanges between the two countries have remained frequent, leading to enhanced strategic trust and substantial cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, tourism, climate change, and cultural exchanges. Nepal deeply values China’s support for its economic development and disaster relief efforts, and is committed to maintaining the momentum of their strategic partnership to further strengthen the future of Nepal-China relations.
At the invitation of Nepalese Ambassador to China Krishna Prasad Oli, Mr. XU Peng, Vice Chair of the World Tourism Alliance, attended the reception.
