Liu Shijun Attended the Release Conference of the First Investigation Report on “Winter Olympics with Her” Project and Delivered a Speech

On September 25, 2020, Visa released the Baseline Survey Report on Small and Micro Cultural Tourism Businesses Owned by Women of the “Winter Olympics with Her” Project together with the China Women’s Development Foundation and Beijing Sport University. Guests from WTA, the World Tourism Cities Federation, the Organizing Committee for 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, Propaganda Department of Zhangjiakou Municipal Party Committee, Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism, Bank of China, Airbnb and other organizations attended, witnessed and participated in the seminar.

This research was jointly designed, analyzed and written by the research teams of Beijing Sport University and Visa. The China Women’s Development Foundation is responsible for coordinating the distribution and collection of questionnaires. As the first research result [1] of the Winter Olympics with Her” Women’s Small and Micro Business Empowerment Project, this report aims to comprehensively understand and deeply analyze the development status of cultural and tourism small and micro businesses owned by women located in the host cities of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games (Yanqing, Beijing and Zhangjiakou, Hebei), their expectations for the Olympic Games, the impact of the pandemic and the demand for participating in empowerment activities, so as to help cultural and tourism small and micro businesses owned by women recover from the pandemic, and seize the development opportunities of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional integration and the construction of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Sports Culture Tourism Belt brought by the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Liu Shijun, Secretary-General of the WTA, said. The design of the “Winter Olympics with Her” project closely follows the development of the Times and national strategies, fully recognizes and concerns the special needs and challenges faced by women and pools the advantages of Beijing Sport University, the China Women’s Development Foundation, Visa and other parties.

In terms of areas of concern and work objectives, he believes that this project highly aligns with the existing work of WTA. It is hoped that in the future, a cooperation mechanism will be set up to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals at an early date, and contribute to sustainable development of small and micro businesses owned by women.

WTA is a comprehensive, non-governmental and non-profit international tourism organization established in September 2017 upon approval of the State Council. It upholds the purpose of “Better Tourism, Better Life, Better World ” and the mission of “Promoting Tourism for Peace, Development and Poverty Alleviation”. It now has 198 members from 39 countries and regions. In 2018–2020, WTA, in partnership with the World Bank and International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), had released the WTA Best Practice in Poverty Alleviation through Tourism and WTA Best Practice in Poverty Alleviation through Tourism 2020 for three consecutive years, which will be officially unveiled at the “WTA·Xianghu Dialogue” on November 13.
