Recently, the World Tourism Alliance (WTA), in collaboration with its member Future Plus Technologies (Beijing) Co., Ltd., launched the fifth season of the micro-documentary series “Better Tourism, Better Life, Better World”. This season, focusing on tourism’s role in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, was broadcast on the China Global Television Network (CGTN) website and app, as well as on social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, and Weibo.
This latest season features two episodes, filmed in Yuhu Village, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, and Yangshan Town, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. Through the lens of local culture, rural revitalization models, and the transformation of natural resources, the episodes highlight how these regions have leveraged cultural and tourism development to boost rural revitalization. The first episode, “The Spearhead: Yunnan Tourism 2.0 Kicks Off through Village Collective’s Cultural Renaissance”, showcases how Yuhu Village pursued the strategy of “eco-based village development, tourism prosperity, and cultural revitalization”, implementing innovative tourism and agricultural models that have helped the entire village achieve shared prosperity. The second episode, “Peach the Way Out: Wuxi Achieves Rural Revitalization in Yangshan Town through Peach-oriented Tourism” highlights Yangshan Town’s success in attracting students, technical experts, and entrepreneurs back to their hometowns. The town integrated agriculture, culture, and tourism to promote deep local development through rural reforms, beautiful countryside initiatives, and the creation of rural tourism complexes.
The WTA views tourism as a driver for poverty alleviation, rural revitalization, and shared prosperity—a trilogy of tourism-empowered rural development. This aligns with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly the goal of eradicating poverty, as well as the core mission of the WTA. By showcasing successful case studies through the micro-documentaries, the WTA not only provides valuable insights for China’s rural revitalization efforts but also offers solutions to poverty alleviation worldwide.
The previous four seasons of the “Better Tourism, Better Life, Better World” series, with 12 episodes in total, were broadcast across multiple media platforms, including CGTN and Xuexi.cn, and garnered widespread industry attention and praise. Looking ahead, WTA will continue leveraging its resources, optimizing its platforms, and uniting its global members and collaborators to further consolidate poverty alleviation achievements, promote rural revitalization research, and advocate for sustainable tourism development. These efforts aim to accelerate the high-quality growth of the global tourism industry and foster social welfare initiatives.
