On the afternoon of November 12, 2020, WTA Fourth Session of the First Council Meeting and the 2020 Annual Meeting, chaired by WTA Chairman Duan Qiang and Secretary-General Liu Shijun, respectively, were held in Hangzhou. Yang Jianwu, Deputy Director-General of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, attended and delivered a speech at the event.

The Council voted and approved the World Tourism Alliance Work Implementation 2019/2020 and Annual Work Plan 2020/2021, World Tourism Alliance Financial Statement Audit Report 2019 and Budget Draft 2021; a total of 14 applications for new members of WTA were passed; participants at the event also listened to preparations for the annual meeting briefed by Liu Shijun, Secretary-General of WTA.

WTA is the first global, comprehensive, non-governmental and non-profit international tourism organization initiated and established by China. The supreme organ of WTA is the General Assembly composed of all member units. The Council, which is the executive organ of the General Assembly, oversees the day-to-day work of the WTA when the Assembly is in recess, and stands accountable to the General Assembly. The Second WTA General Assembly and WTA First Session of the Second Council Meeting will be held in September 2021 in Hangzhou.
