2021 World Tourism Alliance • Beidahu Dialogue Held Successfully in Jilin City, Jilin Province

In order to fully implement the important instructions on “the world of ice and snow are also invaluable assets” and “having 300 million people involved in ice and snow sports”, herald the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, demonstrate the development achievements and great potential of China’s ice and snow economy, and explore new development paths of the ice and snow economy, from December 24 to 26, the 2021 Ice and Snow Economy High-quality Development Conference and the First World Skiing Vacation—Jilin Beidahu Summit was successfully held in Jilin City, Jilin Province. Zheng Jianbang, CPPCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Vice-chairman of the central committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, and Jing Junhai, Secretary CPC Jilin Provincial Committee attended and addressed the occasion. Han Jun, Deputy Secretary CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Governor of Jilin Province, moderated the conference. Duan Qiang, Chairman of World Tourism Alliance (WTA), and Li Yingchuan, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) delivered speeches. Jiang Zelin, Chairman of the CPPCC Jilin Provincial Committee announced the High-quality Development of China’s Ice and Snow Economy • Jilin Proposal. At the margins of the summit, the torch display of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 was organized to arouse people’s aspiration for the Olympic Winter Games.

As a supporter of the summit this year, the WTA successfully organized the 2021 World Tourism Alliance • Beidahu Dialogue on the afternoon of December 25. Chairman Duan Qiang and A Dong, Vice Governor of Jilin Province attended and addressed the occasion. Representatives from such countries and regions as France, Italy, Russia, and Northern Europe, domestic and international experts and scholars, WTA members, enterprises and institutions gathered together in Northeast China’s Jilin City. Focusing on the theme of “promoting high-quality development of ice-snow tourism, and building a world-level ski resort”, and based on international situations, they proceeded from empowering the development of ice-snow tourism with the experience of the world’s advanced ski resorts, and discussed about the great mission and beautiful vision of ice-snow tourism development.

In his speech, Chairman Duan noted that, the ice-snow industry is a green industry that features a high degree of industrial relevancy and the continuity of the sustainable development concept; the ice-snow industry is a sunrise industry that boasts strong development momentum and robust development progress; the ice-snow industry is also an industry of happiness that benefits not only local socio-economic development but also people’s livelihood. As the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 approaches, winter sports and ice-snow tourism keeps heating up, with ice-snow-related activities being organized in many localities. The goal of “having 300 million people involved in ice and snow sports” is gradually coming to reality, and the ice-snow industry is embracing unprecedented development opportunities.

A Dong, Vice Governor of Jilin Province

According to the speech by A Dong, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, Jilin Province will take active steps to build a system for the high-quality development of the ice-snow industry, optimize the construction of ice-snow courses and stadiums, advance the building of the core area of ice-snow culture, upgrade ice-snow equipment and guarantee service measures, and introduce more international ice-snow events, thus developing Jilin into an important area supporting the 300 million people to participate in winter sports and a world-famous scenic area of ice-snow tourism.

David Guigaz, Mountain Projects Director APAC, Club Med

During the session of keynote speeches, Mountain Projects Director APAC, Club Med David Guigaz talked about the development of China’s skiing market and customer experience. Based on big data analysis, he found out that those who ski share a high level of loyalty with a young age structure. They expect for the professional guidance of ski coaches, and that ski resorts can provide high-quality, diversified and professional ski services. The Club Med will proactively lay out for the program that introduces skiing to schools and develop the teenagers’ interest in skiing, so as to lead the development of family ski trips and ski touring holidays.

John Koldowski, Special Advisor to the CEO of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)

John Koldowski, Special Advisor to the CEO of PATA, gave his speech via a video link, analyzing in depth some parameters to consider in developing ice-snow tourism. In his point of view, to develop ice-snow tourism, we must attach great importance to the concept of sustainable development, strengthen the interaction between local residents and tourists, and enhance the tourists’ sense of identity for the local culture. In addition, it is essential that we focus on the demand of tourists, timely analyze the changes in their demands, and improve the supply capacity while adapting to market development.

Wilson Wu, Head of Industry, Travel & Public Sectors, Google China

The speech by Wilson Wu, Head of Industry, Travel & Public Sectors at Google, was themed “science and technology for the beauty of ice and snow and let the world see the beautiful China.” As he noted, in building the brand of the beautiful China, we need to pay attention to data analysis, empowerment through science and technology, as well as intelligent marketing. Active steps should be taken to build intelligent platforms, guide the creation by platform users, and produce thought-provoking videos that can draw the world’s attention to China.

Charles Ding, Vice President of Vanke Group

Charles Ding, Vice President of Vanke Group, introduced the deep participation of Wanke Group in the construction of several programs of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. According to his prediction, after the Olympics, as the hardware and infrastructure improves and the Chinese people gain a better understanding of ice-snow tourism, China’s ice-snow industry will embrace a period of “golden two decades” in the post-Winter Olympics era.

Fabio Ries,Co-Founder of RockRoc(Beijing) Sports and Outdoor Development Ltd.

Fabio Ries,Co-Founder of RockRoc(Beijing) Sports and Outdoor Development Ltd., briefed on the development history of ice-snow industry in Europe. Based on this history, he summarized that, any region wishing to develop itself into a world-level destination of ice-snow tourism needs to well design the scenarios of ice-snow tourism across the year and around the o’clock, and use IP to construct a unique management system of tourist destinations.

The session of roundtable discussions

During the session of roundtable discussions, five well-known professionals in the industry, namely An Li,VP& Head of Public Policy, Airbnb China, Mika Cui,Co-founder, JNE Group and Qyer, Folko Alexander,Representative of the Russian Tourism Association World Without Borders in China, Liu Xiaoshan,Chairman of Qiaoshan Group, and Hou Minghui,Founder of BingXueTouTiao(lce and Snow Headlines), engaged in discussions of “new tourism and the construction of a world-level ski resort”, and offered suggestions for Jilin City to develop into “China’s first town of ski resort” and “a world-level ski resort.”

Release of “Jixing Family”, tourism IP of Jilin City

At the occasion, Sun Mengyang,Co-president of the Tourism Consumer Academy, Professor of the Tourism College of Beijing Union University, unveiled China Ski Holiday Consumption Development Report 2021; Wang Lu, Deputy Party Secretary of Jilin City Committee of the CPC, Mayor of the People’s Government of Jilin City, announced the Implementation Outline of Building Jilin Cityinto a World-class Ski Resort City; Liu Shijun, Secretary General of the WTA, Wang Lu, Mayor of Jilin City, Jin Xudong, Deputy Director of Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and Qiu Wenhe, President at China CYTS Tours Holding Co., Ltd., jointly introduced “Jixing Family”, the tourism IP of Jilin City.

The WTA will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Jilin to achieve the big picture and new blueprint of winter sports development, thus realizing the leapfrog development of ice-snow tourism.
