On June 29, a ceremony for Dalian Municipal People’s Government to donate collections to the World Tourism Museum was held at the Jin Ashan Art Museum in Dalian. Wang introduced the history of the WTA, and the construction progress of the WTA headquarters and the World Tourism Museum, and extended his thanks to Dalian Municipal People’s Government, Dalian Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Jin Ashan Art Museum. He said that Dalian Municipal People’s Government is a city member of the WTA and a central pillar of strength for the development of the alliance. The double-sided shell carving screen donated by Dalian fully demonstrates sincerity of the city and the exquisite craftsmanship of the creators, and has very high artistic value and collection value. Zhou said that the shell carving skill is Dalian’s most representative intangible cultural heritage and one of the cultural tourism resources of the city, hoping that the two sides take the opportunity of the donation to strengthen exchanges and cooperation and jointly bolster high-quality development of the tourist industry.

Under the support of WTA members and all walks of life, the World Tourism Museum has received 482 (sets of) collections, of which 95 (sets of) collections were donated by 31 WTA members. The double-sided shell carving screen is 4.1m long, 2.85m high and 0.55m wide. It took one year for the team of four shell carvers led by Jin Ashan, who is a Chinese craft master and inheritor of the Dalian shell carving skills, to create the screen. It depicts the Dalian Xinghai Bay Bridge and Zhuanghe black-faced spoonbills separately, integrating the theme of modern city into the time-honored shell carving, displaying the beauty of modern building and nature with natural materials and demonstrating the temperament and connotation of the tourist industry of the city.
