World Tourism Alliance Attends the 5th China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo

BEIJING, CHINA – June 19, 2023 – Invited by the organizing committee, the Secretariat of the World Tourism Alliance (WTA) attended the 5th China Xizang Tourism and Culture Expo, an event held at the Tibet Convention Center in Lhasa, the capital city of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China, from June 16 to June 17, 2023.


Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the expo was themed “Experience a Joyful and New Xizang · Explore, Unite, Journey on.” The agenda included an opening ceremony, main forums, exhibitions, product sales, and project signing ceremonies for investment projects. Hu Heping, Minister of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, and Director of the 5th Expo Committee, launched the opening ceremony amidst a galaxy of distinguished guests. Notable attendees included Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chairperson of the National Assembly of Nepal; B.Bat-Erdene, Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia; and Brigadier Tau’aika Uta’atu, Ambassador of Tonga to China. They kicked off the event by lighting crystal ball together with Wang Junzheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

The expo set up 17 theme exhibition areas, including Tibet Travel, Tibetan Culture, Green Industry, High-tech Digital Industry, Border Trade Logistics, Traditional Tibetan Medicine, etc. 9 product display areas indoor and outdoor covered a total of 14,000 square meters, comprising 253 booths. It brought together 612 international and domestic enterprises showcasing approximately ten thousand products across nineteen categories.

In addition, the WTA Secretariat attended the Tibet Tourism Marketing & Promotion Conference held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Lhasa on the afternoon of June 17.
