WTA Attends Prospects of Tourism Promotion between China and Nepal

Beijing, February 27 – The “Prospects of Tourism Promotion between China and Nepal,” hosted by the Embassy of Nepal in China, was held in Beijing, aiming to foster tourism exchanges and cooperation between China and Nepal. The event saw the participation of over 80 representatives from 42 entities across travel agencies, tourism associations, airlines, hotels, and media from both nations. Mr. LIU Shijun, Vice Chair and Secretary-General of the World Tourism Alliance (WTA), attended as an invited guest and delivered a speech.

Mr. LIU stated that China and Nepal have been friendly neighbors with a long-standing friendship, tracing cultural exchanges back to a thousand years ago. Today, within the framework of jointly building the “Belt and Road”, the relationship between China and Nepal has revitalized, continuously unleashing cooperation potential and bringing tangible benefits and opportunities to the people of both countries. As a comprehensive, non-governmental, and non-profit international tourism organization initiated by China, WTA is committed to promoting interconnectedness and shared governance in the global tourism industry. Mr. LIU expressed the WTA’s eagerness to strengthen collaboration with Nepal to accelerate the recovery of bilateral tourism and contribute to the cultural exchanges and the “Belt and Road” initiative.

His Excellency H.E. Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, the Ambassador of Nepal, stated in his speech that tourism has always been a crucial economic pillar for Nepal, significantly contributing to national income and job creation. Serving as a bridge connecting societies, Nepal’s tourism industry showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage, extensive history, and diverse ethnic communities. These unique tourism resources have attracted a large number of Chinese tourists, promoting cultural exchange and integration between the two countries. In 2025, China and Nepal will jointly host a tourism year, an event expected to inject new vitality into the exchanges between the peoples of the two countries and further solidify and develop their friendship.
