WTA Chairman ZHANG Xu Meets with Communications Director of Club Med Thierry Orsoni

On the heels of the “WTA • Dialogue for China-Spain Tourism Cooperation”, WTA Chairman ZHANG Xu led a five-member delegation to Paris from July 7^th to 9^th, 2023. On the morning of July 9^th, ZHANG Xu met with Thierry Orsoni, Communications Director of the Club Med.

Chairman ZHANG recalled his meeting with Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med, during French President Macron’s visit to Beijing. He expressed his gratitude for the support from Club Med and Giscard d’Estaing himself during the WTA’s member day event held at the Club Med Lijiang in May. He highlighted the quick recovery of Club Med’s operations in the post-pandemic period, a move that reinforced confidence in the revival of the tourism industry. Looking forward to the 60^th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations and the forthcoming Sino-French Culture and Tourism Year in 2024, ZHANG highlighted these landmark events as extraordinary chapters in the historical narrative of the two countries’ relations. WTA is actively liaising with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the French Tourism Development Agency to orchestrate related activities under the auspices of the Sino-French Culture and Tourism Year. He expressed his hopes for continued robust support and involvement from Club Med in these initiatives.

Representing Henri Giscard d’Estaing, who was on an overseas trip, Thierry Orsoni welcomed ZHANG’s delegation to Paris. He gave a detailed introduction to Club Med’s global strategic deployment and development plans, sharing a series of measures that the Club Med has taken to promote the recovery of the tourism industry after the pandemic. As an esteemed member of the WTA, Orsoni declared the Club’s unwavering commitment to actively support the WTA’s growth, fully endorse its various programs, and remain a dedicated supporter of the Alliance.

LIU Shijun, Vice Chair and Secretary-General of the WTA, and Lyubov Doroshina, Director of International Promotion at Club Med, were present at the meeting.
