On August 28, at the invitation of the organizing committee, Liu Shijun, Secretary-General of WTA, attended the 16th Strait Travel Fair and the 2020 6th Xiamen International Leisure Tourism Expo held in Xiamen. This Expo is the first cultural and tourism exhibition event held after the resumption of interprovincial group travel in China. During this event, Liu Shijun attended and addressed the 2020 China (Xiamen) Ocean Tourism Hotspot Forum. He said, it is a test of the times that tourism must face, regarding how to restore confidence, resume peripheral and domestic tourism in a safe and steady way, and restart inbound tourism when conditions permit; how to promote the supply-side reform, improve and enrich the promotion platforms and channels, and deliver new experience to tourists; how to achieve high-quality development of destinations based on local resources, environment and talent characteristics, etc.

Since its inception fifteen years ago, the Strait Travel Fair has been adhering to the theme of “Integrated Development, Cooperation and Win-Win Results”, aimed at promoting exchanges and cooperation among tourism industries across the Taiwan Straits, Hong Kong and Macao Regions. Committed to building a one-stop purchase and trading platform for leisure tourism products, the China (Xiamen) Ocean Tourism Hotspot Forum has become an important window for displaying the cultural tourism image of destinations. In 2019, the total exhibition area of two expos recorded 60,000 m2, with 2,600 booths. 226,000 visitors and nearly 20,000 travel agents from 47 countries and regions participated in the exhibition, with a total sales and turnover of RMB 345 million.
