On October 18, the 1st China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week was held in Danzhai Wanda Town, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. Mr. Duan Qiang, Chairman of WTA, Mr. Luo Shugang, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies, and Mr. Wang Xiaofeng, Member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism gave speeches at the Week. Secretary-General Liu Shijun delivered a keynote speech onsite.
Mr. Duan Qiang delivered a speech, stating that intangible cultural heritage, as an important part of cultural heritage, not only contains rich humanistic resources, but also the cultural memory of a nation, constituting the real identity symbol of a nation. The protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage is necessary for the development of countries and nations, the dialogue among civilizations in the international community and the sustainable development of human society. WTA is willing to join hands with the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association and all sectors of society to expand cooperation in promoting the integrated development of intangible cultural heritage and tourism, and jointly open up new prospects for high-quality development of culture and tourism.
Liu Shijun gave a keynote speech entitled “Promoting the Integration of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Tourism, and High-quality Development of the Cultural and Tourism Industry”, expounding the practice and trend of integrated development of intangible cultural heritage and tourism from four dimensions, i.e., intangible cultural heritage is a valuable resource and an important support for integrated development of culture and tourism and a powerful starting point for promoting poverty alleviation through tourism, and intangible cultural heritage talents are special talents for the integrated development of culture and tourism. He also shared with the participants two typical cases of combining intangible cultural heritage and poverty alleviation through tourism included in the WTA Best Practice in Poverty Alleviation Through Tourism 2020, namely the poverty alleviation project in Danzhai funded by Wanda Group, and the Indigo Dyeing travel handbook project implemented by WTA member QYER by relying on the intangible cultural heritage handicraft – “Indigo Dyeing” and “Miao silver” in Guizhou. According to Liu Shijun, WTA will give full play to its advantages as a platform for international and domestic exchanges and cooperation, further promote the dissemination of intangible cultural heritage and fine traditional Chinese culture, and make greater contributions to the protection, inheritance, utilization and development of intangible cultural heritage.
On October 17, the 1st China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week kicked off in Danzhai Wanda Town, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. As the intangible cultural heritage thematic event boasting the highest profile and largest scale at present, the China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week will render a colorful feast of intangible cultural heritage through a variety of activities including but not limited to forums, exhibitions, performances, cultural and creative competitions in more than one week. During the China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week, the China Intangible Cultural Heritage and Tourism Integrated Development Forum will be held as a supporting event, aimed at proposing suggestions for the protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage and the integrated development of intangible cultural heritage tourism in China. Nearly 300 guests and representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Guizhou Province, China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, tourism industry associations and research institutions attended the forum.
