WTA Chair Zhang Xu Meets with Vice Chair Henri Giscard d’Estaing

On April 6th, WTA Chair Mr. ZHANG Xu met Mr. Henri Giscard d’Estaing, WTA Vice Chair and President of Club Med, in Beijing and exchanged views with the latter on issues of mutual interest.
Zhang extended a welcome on behalf of WTA to Mr. d’Estaing for his visit to China as part of the business delegation led by French President Emmanuel Macron. He congratulated d’Estaing on his reappointment as WTA Vice Chair and expressed his commitment to standing beside the rest of the WTA leadership team and striving for the promising future of the organization. Zhang introduced the work plan of WTA for the rest of the year, including the “WTA·Dialogue for China-Spain Tourism Cooperation” that is to take place in Madrid, Spain in early July. The Dialogue, focused on new features and trends of global tourism in the post-COVID new era, is expected to provide ideas and solutions for the enhancement of the tourism industry in China, Spain and Europe at large. Zhang said, the year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, during which the Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris, and the two governments will join hands in hosting the Cultural Tourism Year activities. Adding to these, WTA will be organizing the “WTA·Dialogue for China-France Tourism Cooperation” in France. Zhang cordially requested the support and participation of  Club Med and Mr. d’Estaing in person.
Mr. d’Estaing offered congratulations on Zhang’s appointment as the Chair of WTA and expressed his pleasure and pride in being elected as Vice Chair of WTA for the second term. He briefed about the recent achievements and short-term plans of Club Med, shared his observations on the recovery of the tourism, America and Asia, and urged for further lifting of travel restrictions, increase of incoming and outgoing flights, and promotion of training and exchange programs for tourism talents. He considered the reunion, belated for 3 years because of the COVID situation, as an opportunity to rebuild dialogue and enhance friendship between China, France and Europe. He looked forward to the opportunity to receive Zhang at the Club Med headquarters in France and offered support on the “WTA•Dialogue for China-France Tourism Cooperation” among other WTA activities.
WTA Vice Chair and Secretary-General Mr. LIU Shijun, Heads of the WTA Liaison Office in Beijing, CEO of Club Med APAC Resorts Mr. Jean-Charles Fortoul, VP of Public Affairs of Club Med APAC Resorts Ms. CHEN Yan and VP of Operations of Club Med China Mr. Raphael Erez attended the meeting.
