Symposium on Travel Agency Industry Development in China Held at WTA Headquarters

HANGZHOU, July 25, 2023 – The World Tourism Alliance (WTA) headquarters in Hangzhou hosted the Symposium on the Development of the Chinese Travel Agency Industry. This high-profile event witnessed the presence of Mr. LIU Shijun, Vice Chair and Secretary-General of WTA, Mr. DU Xianzhong, President of China Association of Travel Services, and Ms. SUN Guizhen, Vice President and Secretary-General of China Association of Travel Services.

Mr. LIU Shijun extended a formal welcome to the representatives of the China Association of Travel Services, elaborating on the WTA’s strategic initiatives and the prospective collaboration horizons. He articulated, “The World Tourism Alliance has championed dialogues exemplified by the ‘Xianghu Dialogue’ and has instituted ‘Member’s Day’ events, creating a platform for industry communication, driving global tourism exchanges and cooperation at the non-governmental level.” Mr. Liu emphasized the WTA’s steadfast resolve to synergize with the China Association of Travel Services to amplify mutual development.

Ms. SUN Guizhen introduced the China Association of Travel Services and its various industry sub-associations. She conveyed the Association’s commitment to refining its presence across diverse niche markets, enhancing professional endeavors, pioneering standards through innovative and practical measures, fostering industry normalization and innovative development. She further emphasized the significance of empowering professionals within the industry.

Mr. DU Xianzhong, along with representatives from various sub-associations of the China Association of Travel Services, like the Railway Tourism Branch, MICE Committee, Inbound Tourism Branch and Self-drive Tourism Branch, shared insights on the challenges, pain points, and recommendations concerning their market recovery. Both parties concurred that the tourism sector is currently in a critical recovery phase. Collaboration is imperative across areas like product iteration, brand promotion, government policy support, and talent nurturing, to rejuvenate the tourism industry holistically.

In a subsequent segment, participants engaged in a meticulous exploration of the pristine rural tourism assets in Tonglu and its vicinity.
